Today we continued going over the college essay power point that we started on Monday (you can download and view it by clicking on the link that is located on Monday's post.) I distributed a list of prompts for you to choose from for this assignment, and you are welcome to use any of these for your essay. However, I highly encourage you to look up the applications of schools that you are considering for college and find out if they have a specific essay prompt that they might ask you to address. When we meet in the lab on Wednesday, I will have a selection of prompts from a few specific schools to share with you (CU-Boulder, CSU, Regis, DU, Front Range, The Art Institute of Colorado, etc.) just in case.
In addition, we also read some examples of strong college essays and discussed what made them effective. If you were absent, please see me to get copies of these examples. The main three elements of a good essay that I want to stress is the use of VOICE, STORY, and carrying a clear, strong, focused MAIN IDEA throughout the piece.
Come to class tomorrow with an idea of what you'd like to write about. Jot down some notes or an outline to get you ready, since you will be composing a draft and turning it in tomorrow.
